Penske Racing Ready for Winning 2010 Season

Penske Racing enters the 2010 season ready to produce race victories and series championships at all levels of competition in NASCAR and the IZOD IndyCar Series.

Winning is a tradition for the organization that has earned over 310 major race victories, more than 370 pole positions and 22 national championships entering this season. Those totals are sure to grow in 2010 and with talented teams expected to consistently run at the front of the field in both the NASCAR Cup and Nationwide Series, as well as the IZOD IndyCar Series, it could truly be a landmark year in the rich history of Penske Racing.

2010 Overview - NASCARWith five full-time entries competing in stock car racing’s top two series, Penske Racing has a great opportunity to secure its first NASCAR championship in 2010.

Driving the No. 2 Miller Lite Dodge Charger, Kurt Busch posted his eighth consecutive winning season in the Cup Series in 2009 and earned his best championship finish since winning the Cup Series title in 2004. Busch posted two victories in 2009 – at Atlanta and Texas – and the Miller Lite team elevated its performance during the Chase for the Cup. Over the final 10 races of the season, Busch and the “Blue Deuce” squad finished among the top-10 seven times. With respected and winning crew chief Steve Addington joining the Miller Lite team, Busch expects to once again fight for the series crown in 2010.

Sam Hornish Jr., the three-time IndyCar Series champion, recorded his first NASCAR victory – a win in the Showdown All-Star qualifying race at Lowe’s Motor Speedway in Charlotte – and finished 28th in the final Cup Series standings. He earned two top-five, seven top-10 and nine top-15 finishes, a marked improvement from his rookie Cup Series season in 2008. He returns to the No. 77 Mobil 1 Dodge Charger in 2010, alongside crew chief Travis Geisler, looking to raise the team’s production even higher.

Brad Keselowski, who joined Penske Racing for the final three Cup Series events in 2009, will work with crew chief Jay Guy on the No. 12 Penske Dodge Charger team. The 26-year-old native of Rochester Hills, Mich., was one of the most sought-after talents in NASCAR last season following his success in the Nationwide Series and his first Cup Series victory at Talladega in April. He joined Penske Racing in September and after experiencing success in limited Cup Series action over the last two seasons, Keselowski is ready for his first full season in NASCAR’s premier series. He’ll rely on the experience of the winning No. 12 team and Guy, who came on board in December, to help produce a successful season.

In addition, Keselowski will pilot the No. 22 Discount Tire Dodge Charger in the Nationwide Series. After finishing third in the series championship chase in both 2008 and 2009, Keselowski is ready to take the next step and fight for the title in 2010. With Paul Wolfe, an experienced crew chief and former Nationwide Series competitor who’s new to the team this season, leading the No. 22 crew, Keselowski looks to add to his impressive series totals of six wins and 33 top-five finishes over the past two seasons.

After a stellar rookie season, Justin Allgaier returns with crew chief Chad Walter to the No. 12 Verizon Dodge Charger in the Nationwide Series. Allgaier, the 23-year-old native of Riverton, Ill., posted one pole position, three top-five and 12 top-10 finishes last year on his way to being crowned series’ Raybestos Rookie of the Year. With a year of seasoning under his belt and a talented new teammate in Keselowski in the fold, Allgaier, the 2008 ARCA RE/MAX Series champion, believes another title could be within his grasp this season.

With an eye toward its future, Penske Racing has another promising young stock car racer in its driver development program. Parker Kligerman will run a limited Nationwide Series schedule in 2010, beginning the season with Team 42 Racing for the first five races. After finishing second in the ARCA RE/MAX Series championship in 2009 and winning the pole in his first Nationwide Series race, Kligerman has earned the opportunity to compete and develop at the next level.

2010 Overview - IndyCarWith three full-time entries, Team Penske will bring a powerful lineup to bear this season in the IZOD IndyCar Series. The team has three proven and winning drivers in its stable and all are capable of winning the 2010 championship.

Helio Castroneves earned his third Indianapolis 500 victory in 2009 and he will be looking to tie all-time greats AJ Foyt, Rick Mears and Al Unser with four wins at the Brickyard this May. After adding another victory at Texas to his impressive resume, the popular Brazilian racer finished fourth in the series title chase, despite missing the first race of the season. With a full off-season of preparation and a new focus in 2010, Castroneves hopes to produce his first Indy car title this season in the No. 3 Team Penske Dallara/Honda.

The 2009 season was a breakout year for Ryan Briscoe. The native of Sydney, Australia was a championship contender from the first green flag of the year as he won the season opener at St. Petersburg and added thrilling victories at Kentucky and Chicago. He also earned four pole positions and battled for the series crown down to the final lap of the final race before finishing third in the championship standings in just his second full season behind the wheel of the No. 6 Team Penske Dallara/Honda. Briscoe returns with some unfinished business in 2010, looking to secure the team’s 13th open-wheel championship.

Coming off an emotional 2009 campaign, Will Power will race full-time for Team Penske in 2010 behind the wheel of the No. 12 Verizon Indy car. Power showed flashes of brilliance last season with the team in limited series action. He posted six top-10 and four top-five finishes in just six starts while earning a victory and two pole positions. He was dominant in capturing his first IndyCar Series win as he led 90 of 95 laps en route to the checkered flag at Edmonton. Power’s season came to a painful end in a practice accident at Infineon Raceway in late August but the determined Australian is fully recovered from the back injuries suffered in the crash and ready to make the most of his opportunity with Team Penske this season.

With top-level talent, premiere partners and teams focused on achieving their goals, 2010 promises to be a season to remember at Penske Racing.
